Message from the Dean

Message From The Academic Dean

On behalf of the Hood Theological Seminary (HTS) faculty, I bring you greetings and thank you for taking the time to learn more about us by way of our website.

HTS has been in the business of preparing persons for leadership in the Christian church since 1879, the year a group of AME Zion ministers created the Zion Wesley Institute in Concord, NC to train their denomination’s future clergy leaders. Today, some 135 years later, HTS has grown and expanded in ways its founders could not have imagined. What has not changed, however, is HTSs steadfast commitment to providing its students with the very best in theological education.

With an impressively credentialed faculty devoted to achieving excellence in classroom instruction and a dynamic and engaged student body representing 15 different Christian denominations, HTS is proud of its status as a member school of the Association of Theological Schools, an approved seminary of the University Senate of the United Methodist Church, and a graduate educational institution sponsored by the AME Zion Church. HTSs horizon expanding curriculum, accommodating class schedules for working students, and emphasis on community-based spiritual formation make it an ideal context for 21st century graduate theological education.

If you have any questions about HTS degree programs (MTS, MDiv, and DMin) and/or academic life, do not hesitate to be in touch with me.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Yours in Christ,
Trevor Eppehimer
