Below please find information on the Coronavirus Relief Aid, Relief and Security (CARES ACT) for Students (Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund)

Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act set aside funds for colleges and universities to provide assistance to students facing financial challenges due to COVID-19 pandemic. Hood Theological Seminary was awarded $31,336 through the CARES ACT. Hood Theological Seminary will disburse $15,668 (50%) of the total award directly to students with a financial need. All students who submitted a FAFSA will receive a disbursement. Information will be sent directly to students.

As a result of the Coronavirus Relief Aid, Relief and Security known as the CARES Act, Hood Theological Seminary Students can apply for financial assistance through the HEERF Program.Grant funds will be able to eligible students who have experienced hardships due to COVID-19.

HEERF Criteria:

Eligible Students:

Students must have completed a 2019-2020. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and

Enrolled in a program that was not 100% online on March 13, 2020.

Ineligible Students:

Students not enrolled at Hood Theological Seminary as of March 13, 2020.

Non- Degree Students

Covered Expenses HEERF Funds: (but not limited to):

Food, Course Materials, Technology, Health Care, Child Care

Non-Covered Expenses HEERF Funds:

Loss of Wages

Tuition/Student Account Balance

Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Eligibility

  • Be a citizen or eligible noncitizen of the United States
  • Have a valid Social Security Number
  • Have a high school diploma, GED certificate
  • Be enrolled as a degree seeking student
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress
  • Not be in default on Federal Student loan
  • Registered with the Selective Service

In order to apply for the HEERF a student must complete the 2019-2020 FAFS.

Disbursement of HEERF Funds:

Approved HEERF Grant fund will be disbursed via direct deposit or Mail Check.Please provide your updated direct deposit information if needed.

Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students

Hood Theological Seminary acknowledges it signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education the Certification and Agreement on May 12, 2020 and certifies that Hood Theological Seminary has used 50% of the funds received under section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

The total amount of funds Hood Theological Seminary received on June 23, 2020 from the U.S. Department of Education for distribution to students is $15,668.00

The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of June 26, 2020 is $15,668.00

The estimated total number of students at HTS eligible to participate in programs under section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under section 18004(a)(1) of the Cares Act is 83.

The total number of students who received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of June 26, 2020 is 83.

The methods used to determine which and how many students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants are as follows -

A currently enrolled as a graduate student for term of disbursement

Eligible for funding under a Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965

Maximum total award per student is $200.00

Awards were based on student need for:

Food

Educational Technology

Housing, Child Care

Other (books, transportation, etc.)

The instructions, directions, or guidance provided by Hood Theological Seminary to all students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants were sent via email and published on the Seminary website. https://www.hoodseminary.edu/future-students/funding-your-education/financial-aid-policy-and-procedures

Hood Theological Seminary’s method of evaluating eligibility was based on the student being Title IV eligible and based off of the students Expected Family Contribution (EFC) to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants, and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

Hood Theological Seminary will disburse $15,668 (50%) of the total award directly to students with a financial need. All students who submitted a FAFSA will receive a disbursement.

Hood Seminary has awarded you $200.00 from the CARES ACT Grant to help assist with any challenges you may have faced during the Spring 2020 semester. If you currently have a direct deposit form on file with Hood Seminary, your funds will post to your account Friday, June 26, 2020. If you do not have a direct deposit form on file with Hood Seminary you will receive a check in the mail.
