Wallace Chappell Lecture Series

Reverend Quavon Newton's Life is a testimony of redemption, resilience, and purpose.  Although he was expelled from high school, shot at, and faced criminal charges, he earned his G.E.D., rebuilt his life, and went on to become Vice President, Financial Center Manager at Bank of America in his early 20s.  He later earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Alberta Magnus College and a Master of Divinity from Yale University Divinity School, where he received the University's prestigious Oliver Ellsworth Daggett Award for his ability, diligence, Christian character, and promise of effectiveness as a preacher.  He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Union Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH, and was inducted into the Alfred G. Dunston Board of Preachers at Livingstone College in 2025.  In 2025, Rev. Newton was selected as the Nu Voices Preacher at the historic 111th Hampton University Ministers' Conference, a national platform showcasing emerging prophetic voices in the Black Church. He serves as pastor of St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church in Asbury Park, NJ, where under his leadership the church has become one of the fastest-growing congregations in the denomination.
